33 Coffees VS. Drink Your Words: The Coffee Journal Face-Off

  • Just recently I was looking for a simple book to jot down some notes on a coffee I was drinking while on the go. I am still bummed that Moleskine has not made a coffee book yet since the release of their passions journals, but I am remaining hopeful that it’s already in the works.

Before I heard about 33 Coffees coming out with their coffee tasting book, I had purchased a couple of coffee tasting books from Drink Your Words. I decided to go ahead and purchase some from 33 coffees and compare the two.

Here’s a quick overview of each.

    Coffee Journals

    33 Coffees

    Price: 3 for $10
Overview: From the moment I saw this book I knew it was perfect. It’s a gorgeous looking journal. Each page is simple, containing only the necessary information that you’d want to record such as information about the coffee you are drinking, a place to jot down some notes, brew method used, a flavor wheel to document your tasting experience, and the rating.

Overall, I love this book and would have no hesitation to purchase again. The price is right and it’s exactly what I need.

    Drink Your Words

Price: 2 for $33.70 US Currency
Overview: The price was a total let down even if you take off the fact that it was coming from Australia. Setting aside the price a moment, I do love the flavor attribute section. It is nice to be able to break each attribute down and rate them accordingly, and then tallying it up for the total score.

I have never rated coffees this way, but I would believe it would not be hard to get accustom too. I do like the flavor wheel on it, but I do not feel it is necessary for every page as it’s really just something to glance at when needed.

The rest of the book is pretty much the same as the 33 Coffees one, but I find this book feels crammed or that something is missing from it. Aesthetics?

Overall, not a bad book, but for the price it’s not worth it at all.

    And The Winner Is

The books are similar in some areas, but overall if you are looking for one of these books I suggest going with 33 coffees all the way. The 33 Coffees book is much cleaner looking, and a lot cheaper than Drink Your Words.
