Buddy Brew Bloggers Briefing Recap

I am not one to venture out of the Sarasota-Bradenton area not because I don’t want to, but because of the long drives that usually ensue. It wasn’t until I received an invitation from Buddy Brew coffee inviting me to the first ever Bloggers Briefing that I knew this was an adventure I could not pass up.Buddy Brew Coffee is located at 2020 W. Kennedy Boulevard Tampa Florida, and is run by husband and wife coffee fanatics Dave and Susan Ward.
When you walk into Buddy Brew you quickly realize you never want to leave. The atmosphere in this place was very inviting, and everyone there is truly amazing.
I got to meet some other bloggers in the Florida area as well. You can read up on some of the Buddy Brew recaps here:

Dan Holm from Green Eggs Marketing
The ExaminerAfter we got to meet everyone, we stood around and got started…
In the video below shot by Jonathan Morgan, Dave and Susan talked about the history of Buddy Brew and how they went from home roasting coffee for friends on an I-ROAST 2, to selling coffee online, and then to opening a shop earlier this year.
After the history on Buddy Brew, we enjoyed hands down some of the most enjoyable coffees I’ve had in a while. I mean they are Specialty coffee roasters, which means they only buy and roast the top of the top beans.Bali Blue Moon
The first coffee I had from Buddy Brew when I learned about them. One of my favorite coffees featuring vanilla notes, chocolate, even licorice. You can read my full review here.Brazil Cerrado
Like drinking a cup of sweet chocolate that became darker after each sip. There were hints of nuttiness in this coffee too. This was a highly enjoyable coffee.Costa Rica SHB Naranjo Cattleya
This was an interesting coffee. I noticed some lemony notes right off, and possibly some chocolate notes in the finish.Ethiopian Natural Sidamo Grade 3 Guji Special
Hands down my favorite coffee alongside the Brazil Cerrado. This coffee was very sweet like candy, and carried a sweet strawberry note. D-e-l-i-c-o-u-s.Guatemala SHB Huehuetenango Limonar
This was one I was excited to try as I’ve been hearing a lot about this Huehuetenango from other companies. I noticed this coffee carried a nice brightness like cherries, and a chocolate note.
After the coffee tasting, we watched Dave as he roasted a batch of Brazil Cerrado. It was quite a sight to watch him roast on this beautiful red colored 15lb Diedrich roaster. Coffee roasting is an art, but when you add the roaster into play there’s a lot more variables to add in.For about 15 minutes, we watched as the coffee beans went from a raw greenish-yellow color, to a beautiful brown color. To be more technical, a “Full City” roast.
After the beans were done, he let the beans cool, and then later packaged them up for us to take home.
Overall, this was such a great experience not only to meet Dave and Susan Ward, but to learn about how they got started and to be able to be apart of what keeps this place going. If you live in the Tampa area please check them out, and if not, order some beans online at BuddyBrew.com
