Burundi Yandaro Bourbon Home Roast Thoughts

  • I came across this coffee while looking for different green coffee beans to buy. I roasted this to the beginning of the 2nd crack to bring out the dark chocolate note, but to still retain all of the flavors in the coffee without destroying it.

Turns out, this is probably one of my favorite coffees right now, alongside my other favorite, Indian Monsooned Malabar AA.

I couldn’t help myself and tried the coffee mere hours rested, but then tried it again 2 1/2 days later to compare my results. The coffee tasted as good as it did just hours old.

This coffee definitely has a bourbon like aroma. If bourbon met dark chocolate, this would be the smell. There’s also a sweet like vanilla, and butterscotch note that follows underneath.

A dark chocolate note fills your tongue along what I am guessing a bourbon note, carried by a medium, but smooth body. There’s a juicy tartness that comes alive. The tartness kind of makes your face squint for a second, but the chocolate note comes and sweetens it all out.

The aftertaste is pretty clean with just a hint of dark chocolate lingering around.

Overall, I am very impressed with this coffee. I think this coffee is great, and would probably make for a good blend as well.
