Coffee Encrusted Steak Review

Awhile back Mike from DailyShotOfCoffee posted all these different recipes involving coffee. One of the recipes was coffee encrusted steak which can be found over at INeedCoffee which is the recipe I decided to try out.At first, I wasn’t sure about coffee grinds on my steak, but I was quite surprised with the end result.
Using Mike’s tweaked recipe as followed:
Ingredients
* Steaks – flexible on what kind of steak, I grilled up two different kinds and both worked. In other words, whatever kind of steak you usually grill.
* Olive Oil
* Worcestershire Sauce
* Garlic Powder
* Black Pepper
* Dark Roast Coffee – Coarse ground like for French Press coffeeInstructions
* In a bowl mix a half cup of the coffee with a quarter cup of pepper. You may need more depending on the size of your steak.
* Cover the steaks with olive oil and the Worcestershire sauce.
* Lightly season with the garlic powder.
* Cover the steaks with a heavy layer of the coffee and pepper mixture.
* Let it marinate for two hours.
* Sear on a hot grill and cook until ready. I recommend a nice medium rare, but I understand if you want to cook it more thoroughly.The directions are very easy and very flexible so you can pretty much use anything with the coffee grinds and still come out with a great tasting steak.
Since this was a last minute thing, I had to make a quick run to the nearest open store and pick up some Java Delight Espresso Dark Roast Coffee. For a store bought coffee it didn’t smell half bad.
I grabbed myself a bowl and threw in about 1/2 cup or so of olive oil, 1/2 cup of Worcestershire sauce, two tablespoons of powdered garlic, and two teaspoons of pepper and about 3/4 cup of coffee grounds.
The look of all this mixed together may cause you to think twice about this, but I promise you the end result is worth it.
After the steak were done marinating I threw them onto my trusty George Foreman. The smell that came off these steaks was wonderful. The coffee grinds were creating a nice crust on the steak. I was already beginning to like this. After the steaks were done I couldn’t wait to bite into it. It had a wonderful coffee taste with a darkness and slight smokey flavor.
I already can’t wait to make this again and with a few tweaks I know it will be even better. I hope everyone who is a coffee lover and steak lover will give this a shot and let me know what you think of it.
