Cold Brew Coffee Series: Pure Black From La Colombe

  • La Colombe Cold Brew Coffee

I decided to order all the cold brew coffee I could find from roasters. With the ever-growing heat, it’s becoming quite easier to grab some cold brew and have it shipped to my door. This week I was quite excited to try Pure Black after seeing it on La Colombe’s site. I love the black and white label and just the all around simplicity. This is a ready to drink cold brew so there is no need to dilute it with water.

Let’s pop the top off and get sipping…

    Thoughts
From opening the bottle and pouring it into a glass I first noticed an intense chocolate sweetness, but underneath a smokiness emerged which soon became a little overpowering.

Each sip is very smoky with a nice chocolate sweetness underneath. It is very smooth with no bitterness whatsoever, although, the smokiness is just still so overpowering.

Steeped for 16 hours in stainless steel wine tanks, free from oxygen, pressed and filtered twice, PURE BLACK is a bottled celebration of the culinary flavors of coffee – cocoa tones and sweet goodness. We recommend pouring PURE BLACK over ice. ~ La Colombe

    Verdict
I wanted to enjoy this, but the more I drank it the more I began to hate it. The smokiness, at least for me, is way too strong. I also noticed the coffee wasn’t filtered that great because after the last sip you notice there is some sediment hanging in the bottom of the bottle.

I don’t know if it was enough sediment to cause the flavor to change while in the bottle, but this definitely wasn’t a pleasing discovery.

Overall, not one of the better cold brewed coffees out there.
