Cold Brew Coffee Series Round-Up Of 2012

  • 2012 is over and it is a brand spankin’ new year. Today I’ll be doing a round-up of all the cold brew’s I have reviewed on the site in the last year.

I started a little late on the cold brews last year mainly because I was so against them. It wasn’t until finally putting my differences aside that I actually found some that really impressed me.

    1. Chocolate City Coffee Bomber from Dark Matter Coffee
A big chocolate bomb with lots of complex layers underneath such as oranges, strawberries, milk chocolate, and nutty tones. One of the many favorites I had this year.

    2. Slingshot Cold Brew
Not the chugging kind of cold brew. This is one company you’ll want to savor as long as you possibly can. The ready-to-drink cold brew is absolutely superb and the concentrate is quite delicious as well.

    3. Barefoot Coffee Cold Brew
Not my favorite of the cold brews I’ve had in 2012. This cold brew had some smoky characteristics that I’m not sure I really cared for. It starts out great, but quickly falls short and gets a little overpowering with the smokiness. I hope to give this another shot in the new year as from what I’ve heard it shouldn’t have tasted this way.

    4. Vanilla Nut Cold Brew from Kohana Coffee
This isn’t your average cold brew. It’s a flavored cold brew, but before you turn your nose up at it I found this to be great to keep in the fridge for when you want a little sweeter coffee. Makes for a nice iced latte.

    5. Superba Coffee Cold Brew
Definitely want to give these guys another try. The cold brew I had was good but seemed to fall apart taste wise rather quickly.

    6. Passion House Coffee Roaster’s Cold Brew
One of the brighter cold brews I had in 2012. In no way bad either. This one carries some plump, yet mouth puckering citrus notes and a hefty amount of chocolate.

    7. Hop! Toddy from Oddly Correct
This is a very memorable cold brew. Not your average cold brew either as this one is brewed with hops. Yes, I said hops. This is why it’s so interesting. The combination of cold brewed coffee and hops makes for the most interesting flavors your tongue will taste in a cold brew.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they bring this back. If they do I’ll order a good 12 bottles and drink it up like a fish.

    8. Joe Van Gogh Cold Brew
This 32oz bottle backs a punch carrying lots of chocolate goodness with underlying fruit tones. Don’t let the 32oz size fool you. It won’t last long… It’s that good!

    9. Secret Squirrel Cold Brew Coffee
What haven’t I said about these folks. This is the company that made me fall in love with cold brew in the first place. This company gave me hope that somewhere out in the world there in fact was good cold brew out there.

    10. Pure Black Coffee from La Colombe
My least favorite cold brew of 2012. Some might find the smoky/heavy bodied cold brew appealing, but for me it was nothing but awful.

    11. Fit’z Rootbeer / Kaldi’s Coffee Collaboration Coffee Cola
Okay I know this doesn’t necessarily classify as a cold brew, but it does have coffee in it. Not only did Kaldi’s Coffee partner up with another coffee company to do a collaboration coffee, but they also partnered up with Fitz’s Root Beer to make a coffee cola. Probably the finest coffee cola you’ll ever taste.

    12. Gorilla Coffee Cold Brew
I fell in love with the packaging most of all, but the cold brew was pretty good too. This carton of cold brew is a little more on the tart side packing lemon bombs and peaches, but mellows out with some chocolate in the finish. Wonderful.

I am excited to see what the new year brings in the form of cold brewed coffee. Also, I hope this shows you that there really is a decent amount of cold brews out there worthy of checking out. I hope you fill the new year with a bottle or two, or three.
