El Gallo Breakfast Blend From Intelligentsia Review

  • I figured it was time that I stray away from my lovely single origin coffees and try something new. I decided to try El Gallo Breakfast Blend from Intelligentsia Coffee.

I have never tried any breakfast blends before. I wasn’t sure what this experience would be like. Breakfast blend? What’s makes this coffee breakfast type anyways?

    On to the review.

I noticed the aroma has an inviting floral sweetness to it with a fruity note in the background.

From the first sip, I am greeted with a brightness. It’s more of a fruity brightness gone sour. My face cringed just a little. In the background, there’s a sweetness that just doesn’t shine through enough.

As the coffee starts to cool, I noticed more of a floral play with a lavender note coming through. The brightness is starting to mellow a little more.

There’s a very clean aftertaste to the coffee.

The coffee is a little bright for a breakfast blend, but once it cools a bit, it settles down into a much more pleasing coffee.

Overall, I’d give this coffee a 3.25 out of 5 cups.

You can grab yourself 1/2lb for $8.50 plus shipping.

I have given some consideration to the same thing you, “a berakfast blend? What makes a berakfast blend?” You beat me to the punch, so to speak, you tried it and gave your review. However, there are many types of breakfast blends and maybe I will try some of them and give my review of them. I know I will need to brew and drink fast to get ahead of you, Ha Ha, just joking, but seriously, I do like the way you write your reviews. clear, concise, informative with a very smooth natural style. Good job!! When you get a chance check me out… Thanks for letting me come by!!

    I’m a huge Intelligentsia fan, but this isn’t one that I’ve tried…yet.

What makes this a Breakfast Blend is that it’s made up of mostly light roasts which means more caffeine.

Thanks Jennifer. I figured it was more of a mellow roast.
