Espresso Makers

  • If you are a espresso drinker, or just love those espresso shots to kick start your morning, you probably know there are countless espresso machines/makers out there of various prices.

I am looking for an espresso maker myself that makes decent espresso for the price. I’ve narrowed my search down to 3 espresso makers that have been rounding the coffee blogs for awhile now.

First we have the AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker at $28.95

Next mypressi TWIST Portable Espresso Maker at $139.99

And last, but not least we have Bialetti Moka Express Stovetop Espresso Maker at $27.64

I’m curious if any of you have used any of these or can even recommend something better. Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts.

I love the Aeropress, although I’m not sure you should get it if you’re looking for espresso.

Moka pots are awesome and mine gets regular use, but it’s not exactly the espresso that you can get in the coffee shops around here. It’s good, brings out a lot of unique flavors, etc.

I’m hopefully going to be doing a review of the mypressi TWIST very soon. I’m really looking forward to trying it.

I just bought a Moka Pot last night and tried making espresso with that vienna roast you gave me, but so far that didn’t turn out very good. I don’t really know how to make espresso, but it will be a learning experience.

I hope you get to review the mypressi TWIST. I would like to know how that turns out because It seems like it could be a good espresso maker for the price.

The mypressi Twist just came in today! I’m going to be starting the testing out tomorrow. Can’t wait!

As far as the moka pot, it does take a few tries I think to get it right (or maybe a different coffee).

For home use, the Mocha Pot seems to be a good way to go. Most of them are made out of cast Aluminum, but you can find some made of stainless steel. I suspect the stainless steel ones are easier to clean and care for.

I’m looking forward to the review of the Mypressi Twist.

For a quick hassle free espresso, I have a Nespresso system that does fairly well. No hassle, quick and easy espresso. Of course, you either have to order their coffee pods, or re-use a pod with your own ground coffee. While the Nespresso system is more expensive than the options you listed, it’s about the same as the mid range espresso machines I was looking at when I got it.

I absolutely love my Moka pot. The intensity of aroma and flavor are amazing with the right coffee. I prefer to make espresso with it instead of my espresso machine. I will hopefully be getting an AeroPress soon and like Mike said, I probably wouldn’t use it for espresso. For me, the mypressi Twist would be more of a “toy” than to get regular use out of. It looks cool and very portable. I’ve heard a lot of good things though and can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it, Mike.

Aeropress and Moka are definitely NOT espresso. The pressure is just not there. I use real espresso and also Aeropress and Moka (plus vacuum) methods and they are all different, although Aeropress and vacuum have similar tastes. You need to become acquainted with machines that develop pressure, either manual lever machines or electronic pump machines. Good ones are not cheap. I believe that http://www.vanelis.com has some of the most reasonable prices around. I bought my son a grinder there. Oh, by the way, an excellent grinder is even MORE important than a good espresso machine. So, don’t even think about getting a decent espresso machine without a grinder to match. They go hand in hand. The pressure needs the proper grind to work.

      Ron,

Thanks for your comment. I realized the difference not long after posting this. I checked out the store you recommended. Looks good. I own two grinders… A Baratza Virtuoso Preciso, and a Nemox Lux Plus so I do know about having decent grinder.

      Thanks again!
