Ethiopia Moplaco Yirgacheffe Home Roast Thoughts

  • I ended up roasting some Ethiopia Moplaco Yirgacheffe from Sweet Maria’s. The coffee sounded good with notes of

Lemon cookie aromatics, honeysuckle blossom, apricot and peach, sweet citrus, soft and silky mouthfeel.

Well, upon roasting, I realized I may have messed up on this roast. The roast ended up only taking 10 or so minutes, but a lot of the chaff did not come off, but I guess that’s not too big of a deal right? Anyways I let it sit overnight and it had somewhat of a pleasant smell, but it didn’t jump out at me. As far as taste, I’ve noticed with all the Ethiopian coffee’s I’ve tried they all seem to taste the same which leads me to this… I need to do a blind taste testing with Ethiopian coffees.

The taste on this batch was once again more of an earthy taste with maybe a citrus taste at the end which surprises you, but then goes away. The taste doesn’t linger around that much which is good. There’s also not much to say on this batch because I really didn’t get too much out of it so I need to roast another batch because I know this can be better.

I’m not sure if I’ve said this already, but you’re making me really want to start roasting.
