Hawaiian Kona Dark From Rocketfuel Coffee Review

I finally gave in and bought some Hawaiian Kona Dark from Lisa at Rocketfuel Coffee. I wasn’t too sure about ordering it, but after hearing good things from Mike at DailyShotOfCoffee I put an order in for it.I have had some time to have a few cups or most of the bag and this Is what I think of the coffee.
The beans had a sweet chocolate smell with a nutty aroma. It didn’t smell too much like a dark roast, but it is a definite dark roast.
In the aroma, there is a definite sweet nuttiness to it. I did get a slight cinnamon smell with a bit of darkness around the edge, and maybe a hint of chocolate. This coffee has a sweeter aroma, whereas the original Hawaiian Kona had more of a floral aroma from what I remember. I also didn’t detect much of the floral scents that was in the original Hawaiian Kona.
The immediate taste I got was that it was a darker roast, but I got some spice to the coffee as well. Like a dark roast and then it jumping to a very bright and kind of intense spice flavor. I also get a bit of a smoky kind of charcoal flavor at the end. There is also some bitterness to the coffee, but it’s ever so slight. By the time you start to notice the bitterness it’s gone.
There’s is really no weight to the coffee and it doesn’t linger too bad. This coffee definitely has a bolder taste, with some pronounced flavors as well.
I would have to give this coffee a 3.5 out of 5.
