Introducing El Salvador Finca Monte Rey Pradera From Tonx Coffee

  • A new roasting company has hit the coffee scene. Well, they aren’t necessarily new as they just went live with their first offering, El Salvador Finca Monte Rey Pradera.

So who is this new roasting company?

They are Tonx Coffee, and they are led by Tony Konecny a well known coffee guy, and a team of coffee fanatics who just want you to drink good coffee.

We are a seat-of-the-pants operation with an opportunistic approach to the best coffees. We hunt down the most solid and/or interesting green coffees, nail the roast, release it and pimp it till it’s gone. Everything works better this way. We hope to keep our loyal customers from having to slum it with lesser beans by getting into a pretty regular release schedule but right now we strike when the moment is right, often with little warning.

We all know that there are a ton of coffee companies out there. For some, it can be a headache trying to figure out which coffee companies strive to bring you the best quality coffee around and who doesn’t. It took me awhile to figure out what companies to avoid and which ones to run to at full speed.

I have no doubt that Tonx Coffee will start a coffee riot. Their first offering, El Salvador Finca Monte Rey Pradera sold out on the first day the coffee went live. That’s pretty awesome. Also, instead of offering a huge offering list, Tonx Coffee is keeping it simple by offering one coffee at a time until its gone and then moving on to a new coffee. This means that their focus is 110% on one coffee at a time so you can assure that each coffee will be the highest quality available as well as being very fresh.

Sure you may have to wait until the new coffee is available for order, but it will be worth the wait.

I was giddy the whole time as I waited for my coffee to arrive. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long as the coffee arrived within two days. I tore open the box to find a bag of El Salvador waiting for me. My excitement grew stronger. I cut off the seal and stuck my nose in the bag and was greeted with an intense wave of flowers and fruit jumping out at me and lingering under my nose.

While brewing I noticed a fruitiness which danced under my nose and a lingering sweetness like raisins or dates. The sweet fruity note from brewing carried into the cup.

I sat down with my coffee and waited for it to cool just enough so I could take the first sip. A delicate flowery-fruitiness hit my tongue first. I sat there enjoying that first sip, and then took my second. The second sip led me from a delicate fruit note to sweet raisins and a mixture of caramel and a pleasing acidity.

Overall, this coffee was a perfect first offering for Tonx Coffee. I can’t wait to see what they will bring to the table later down the line.

    I’m giving this a 4.5 out of 5 cups.

    Hi Jamie,
Had a few weeks off, but it’s good to come back to some great coffee reviews…  It’s so hard to keep up with all these little gourmet coffee roasters. The future looks bright!!!
