Kohana Cold Brew Review

I’ve been getting more into iced coffees more and more recently due to this awful heat. It was no surprise that when I heard that Kohana Coffee was selling a Cold Brew Concentrate I had to get some of this to try.I ended up having to place an order by phone because at the time they did not have this up on their website yet.
I couldn’t wait to try this out. The possibilities were endless. Iced black coffee, iced frappes and so on.
I wanted to know how this Cold Brew tasted on it’s own. I mixed some of the concentrate with water and made just a plain iced black coffee.
When I stuck my nose into the cup to get a feel for the coffee I began to worry. It was starting to remind me of *gasp* Starbucks VIA with hints of lemon underneath, but in a less disgusting way.
The taste was thankfully nothing like VIA. A lemon note really sprung through the coffee making itself known. The coffee was bright, and full of life. For a concentrate, this tasted pretty darn good. I noticed hints of smokiness. It almost tasted as if this was a dark roast coffee, but with a lemon brightness mixed in. I am also getting a bit of an aftertaste that’s a little unpleasing, but not bad.
Sure, this isn’t as good as freshly brewed coffee, but it holds it’s own for some pretty decent concentrate.
Overall, I’d give this a 3.5 out of 5 cups.
You can grab a 32oz bottle of this for $9.07 plus shipping.
