Kohana Cold Brew Review

  • I’ve been getting more into iced coffees more and more recently due to this awful heat. It was no surprise that when I heard that Kohana Coffee was selling a Cold Brew Concentrate I had to get some of this to try.

I ended up having to place an order by phone because at the time they did not have this up on their website yet.

I couldn’t wait to try this out. The possibilities were endless. Iced black coffee, iced frappes and so on.

I wanted to know how this Cold Brew tasted on it’s own. I mixed some of the concentrate with water and made just a plain iced black coffee.

When I stuck my nose into the cup to get a feel for the coffee I began to worry. It was starting to remind me of *gasp* Starbucks VIA with hints of lemon underneath, but in a less disgusting way.

The taste was thankfully nothing like VIA. A lemon note really sprung through the coffee making itself known. The coffee was bright, and full of life. For a concentrate, this tasted pretty darn good. I noticed hints of smokiness. It almost tasted as if this was a dark roast coffee, but with a lemon brightness mixed in. I am also getting a bit of an aftertaste that’s a little unpleasing, but not bad.

Sure, this isn’t as good as freshly brewed coffee, but it holds it’s own for some pretty decent concentrate.

Overall, I’d give this a 3.5 out of 5 cups.

You can grab a 32oz bottle of this for $9.07 plus shipping.

You shouldve tried it with milk..

I think it is more than delicous, I just add half whole milk and half cocentrate with No sweetener.. the lemon notes add the perfect sweetness!

Mike – I actually did try it with some milk. I guess I forgot to add that in the review. Whoops. I’ll update this review later.

It wasn’t bad with milk either, but I actually found it a little better to add just a tad of flavored syrup with the milk.
