Komodo Blue Dragon From Rocketfuel Coffee Review

  • I’ve been waiting patiently (at least trying to) for some new Rocketfuel Coffee to come out.

The day has come…. About a week ago, Lisa announced two new coffees. If you know me, you know I had to have them both.

First up, Komodo Blue Dragon. Komodo Blue Dragon is a coffee that is located in Flores, a small Indonesian Island located about 200 miles to the east of Bali. Flores is also one of the few places on earth where Komodo dragons can be found in the wild.

This coffee is known for it’s:

sweet chocolate, floral and woody notes. Very earthy and smooth, even more so than Sumatra. Background smokiness that makes for a distinctive cup. Mouth coating body and chocolaty texture.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this coffee when it mentioned the word Sumatra in the cupping notes. I am not the biggest fan of Sumatran coffees, but I remained optimistic.

From the aroma, I smell more of a fruity/floral play coming out. There’s an ever so light earthy note hiding underneath, and hints of a chocolate note starting to appear.

The taste is quite interesting. The first thing I notice is an earthy note. It’s a mellow earthiness, and then you are hit with a fruity/woody/sweet chocolate note all at once.

I notice some floral play in the background as the coffee cools.

The chocolate note lingers along with a soft hint of smokiness creating a sweet, but very pleasing finish.

Overall, this coffee is very enjoyable. The earthy, and woody notes are not what you would probably expect them to taste like.

This coffee is a must try.

I am giving this a 4.5 out of 5 cups as it’s true to my rating system. This coffee is almost gone, and I just got it too.

1/2lb. will run you $20 plus shipping.

Interesting review! Now, I really can’t wait to try this coffee. I had it show up in the mailbox the other day and I can’t wait to go thru some other coffees, so that I can review this one.

Honestly, when I first tried it I wasn’t sure what to think of it, but then after having it the next day I was just in love with the coffee.

My favorite part about it is that the earthiness isn’t overpowering and it stays on the mellow side so all the other notes can come out, and be noticed, but at the same time all these notes just mix perfectly. At least, this is what I think. :)
