Malulani Estate From Coffees Of Hawaii Review

A coffee blogger CoffeeNate posted on Twitter a coupon for Coffees of Hawaii.I love trying coffees from Hawaii especially my favorite coffee Hawaiian Kona. I’ve had some amazing Hawaiian Kona this year and I am hoping to try even more.
The cool part about Coffees of Hawaii is that most of the coffees they offer come in a 2oz sample pack. This is a huge plus for me because I can order more coffee in smaller quantities to experience more of what they offer.
The coffee I decided to try first is the Malulani Estate which is 100% Moloka’i Coffee. Upon some online research I found that Moloka’i is an Island in Hawaii and the 5th largest of the main Hawaiian Islands.
Malulani Estate is a
rich-bodied, medium roast coffee with a mild acidity, complemented with a luscious hint of chocolate.
From the aroma I get a very mellow coffee with a hint of chocolate and cocoa in it. So far, I found the aroma is a little mellow for me.
The taste isn’t what I expected. I am greeted with a pungent cocoa like note with hints of chocolate in the background.
The flavor doesn’t seem very balanced. I get hit with this cocoa flavor and then it turns into this bland like coffee. I made two cups with what I had and it just wasn’t any better.
On their website they say they gently roast the beans to release “subtle, resonating essences unique to the soil of Moloka’i.”
It’s possible the gentle roast might be playing a part in the coffees lack of full flavor.
Overall, I’d have to give this a 2.5 out of 5 cups.
If your looking for samples you can grab yourself some for $3.25.
