Organic Guatemalan Chajul From Black Gold Coffee Roasters Review

Just recently, I watched this movie called Black Gold which is a documentary about the Ethiopian farmers who are unfairly paid for their hard work and coffee beans. I was looking on Google for more about the movie and came across Black Gold Coffee Roasters which just so happens to be in the Florida area. Venice, Florida to be exact. After pondering for awhile trying to figure out which coffee I wanted to try, I decided on Organic Guatemala Chajul which is a Fair Trade coffee that has notes of:
chocolate, sweet vanilla aroma, slight citrus tones and a smooth body with a floral finish.
One thing I noticed about the coffee is that when it came was that it was roasted about two weeks before I even placed my order. I’m very big on getting coffee as fresh as possible.
I’m putting that aside for now and seeing what the coffee has to offer.
The aroma carries a nice chocolate note, slight citrus tones, and a vanilla almond note. Overall, the aroma smells quite pleasing.
The taste on the other hand seems out of place. The coffee starts out with a chocolate note, and then it leads to some citrus play, and a vanilla note. It starts out good, but then it’s like the chocolate and citrus notes are mixing together in a bad way. I am just getting this sour aftertaste.
As the coffee cools, it starts to taste a little better, but not enough to change my feelings toward it.
Unfortunately, I’d give this a 3 out of 5 cups.
This coffee will run you $14.00 for a lb. plus shipping if you decide to try it.
