Quick Post

  • Got my whirley pop all set up. Bought a nice hot plate style burner because I’ve been banned from roasting in the house. Anyways I ended up roasting some Colombia “Platos Fuertes de Huila” Microlot from Sweet Maria’s.

I ended up roasting two batches. The first batch doesn’t look too bad, but I don’t have much hope for it after seeing how much better the second batch looked. The second batch has a nice even roast to the beans. You can still tell there is some slight unevenness, but all in all I’m very happy how it turned out so far.

I am really liking the whirley pop method of coffee roasting. It’s been in the 50′s today so roasting outside in the cold didn’t help much, but I think this method could be a winner for roasting right now. I will post back tomorrow and give a taste testing of my coffee.

I don’t know too many people roasting coffee that way, but the people that have done it, have had good results.

I was using a skillet, but that was too hard for me. I’ve heard that is a harder method, but i just could not get the hang of it. I had more beans flying out of the skillet than actually staying in. haha

Congrats on a successful roast! Looks pretty good. I tried the whirly pop once before going to the Poppery / popcorn maker method, best of luck in the tasting. I happen to love the Platos Fuertes de Huila, from Sweet maria’s both solo in a french press and i really loved it in a blend with costa rican stuff too.

Thanks Paul. I’ve moved up to the Behmor a few months ago. Best decision I ever made.
