Rain Forest Nut From Green Mountain Coffee Review

  • You’ve read the headline right. I am reviewing a coffee from Green Mountain Coffee.

When I first got into fresh coffee I had no idea who or where to get coffee from. The term “fresh” was like a whole other language for me. I understand what fresh means, but what constitutes as “fresh” coffee was one question I didn’t have the answer to.

I thought it only stopped at whole beans, but boy was I in for a ride into the coffee world.

I got a French Press, and one of the first store bought coffees I bought was Fair Trade Rain Forest Nut.

Granted, this was when I was still using half and half in my coffee.

Let’s see if it tastes just as good black, and how it tastes as my taste buds have evolved.

This coffee is said to be:

a subtle, sweet, delightful coffee with tastes of vanilla, caramel, cashew, and brazil nuts

I decided to brew this in the Chemex to see what it would offer.

Opening the bag, the beans smelt very good, and very fresh which has me thinking I picked this up at the perfect time.

From across the room, I could smell an amaretto like note, with hints of caramel, and vanilla.

The taste falls short, and fast. The coffee has a tongue clenching bitterness to it followed by a over extracted amaretto-vanilla note. This amaretto-vanilla like note lingers on your tongue in an awful way. Almost as if it’s trying to attack your tongue.

I can’t bring myself to take another sip.

This coffee might be better brewed in a regular drip pot to ensure that it’s not over extracting, and maybe add some milk or half and half to mellow the coffee out.

I am giving this a 2 out of 5 cups.
