Review: Bolivia Cafe Takesi From Zoka Coffee Roasters

January 24th marked the day that Zoka Coffee Roasters would be offering a very limited quantity of Cafe Takesi Bolivia, a coffee grown at the highest altitude in the world.119 lbs. of this coffee was offered and unfortunately now is all sold out. I was fortunate to be able to get an order in to try this.
Cultivated at heights between 6200 and 8500 feet above sea level, Cafe Takesi Bolivia is said to have
Spicy and yeasty aromas which developed into sweeter and more citric notes. Subtle floral flavors mixed with hints of dried fruits. Such flavors as raisins and a luscious bread pudding also came through. The sugars grew more savory like an oven-roasted sweet potato. This solid-bodied, though clean and light coffee had a graham cracker-like finish. ~ Zoka’s Founder and President, Jeff Babcock ~
When you first open the bag a gush of citrus, honey, blossoming floral notes, and dried fruit come out. The aroma took me by surprise. I had to take a moment out to enjoy the aroma more than I already was. It made me realize that this is why I love coffee so much. The inviting aroma to that first sip of coffee… It’s all heaven.
The aroma starts off with dried raisins, and quickly moves to intense sugary and sweet honey notes which both become stronger as the coffee cools.
Each sip is as wonderful as the next.
First, this coffee brings a bright acidity which springs out from the cup hitting my tongue and waking up my palate. After that, a dried raisin note dances around my tongue and then a sweetness stars to blossom. As the coffee cools a honey note starts to appear with hints of floral.
Overall, I am quite impressed with this coffee. I was expecting a more of a mellow coffee, yet I ended up with layers of sweetness, dried fruit, and floral.
I’m giving this a 4.5 out of 5 cups.
