Review: Bolivia Carmelo Yujra From PT’s Coffee

How does a delicate and sweet cup of coffee sound to you? PT’s Coffee threw in a sample of Bolivia Carmelo Yujra when I placed my order for their Yellow Caturra Natural. I was quite intrigued by their description of the coffee, and I couldn’t wait to dive in to see what the coffee held.Bolivia Carmelo Yujra is said to be:
Delicate and sweet, this coffee intrigues with its subtleties. Sweet milk chocolate and soft buttery caramel persist throughout the cup; but hints of Meyer Lemon, bergamont, and soft floral notes toy with the palate.
I opened that bag to be greeted with an aroma that was anything but delicate. It had a very floral like aroma with hints of strawberries or some kind of berry in the background. The aroma reminded me of some of the Kenyan coffees I’ve had recently. So far, I was impressed.
While I was brewing, I started to notice more of the delicate notes in the coffee. It was hard to decipher anything at first, but when I sat down with my cup of coffee I was able to pick up hints of chocolate, a buttery caramel note, light floral notes, honey, and a sweetness.
The aroma is light, and at first is hard to pick anything out of it, but it slowly opened up and invited me in.
Next up, the taste. It gets to be a little frustrating when you can’t pick out what you’re tasting, but even worse, having all the notes taste muted.
I was beginning to rethink my thoughts on this coffee. I liked the delicate aroma, but the taste was another story.
It wouldn’t be until the coffee cooled to almost a cold temperature that I was able to decipher anything out of the coffee.
Finally, a sweetness appeared with what tasted like a cocoa play. Hints of floral, a buttery caramel, and hints of lemon emerged.
The delicacy of this coffee made it hard at first for me, but in the end that didn’t stop me from liking it in the end. Bolivia Carmelo Yujra might be light, and delicate, but once this coffee opens up you can’t help but like what you find.
Overall, I’d give this a 4.25 out of 5 cups.
This coffee will run you $14.60 for a 12oz bag.
