Review: Costa Rica Aguilera Bro’s Micromill From Tonx Coffee

The CoffeeBeans: Costa Rica Aguilera Bro’s Micromill
Roaster: Tonx CoffeeEquipment/Brewing Method
Brew Method: Aeropress / Coava DISK
Grinder/Grind Size: Baratza Virtuoso Preciso – Dial 24
Bean/Water Ratio: 24/260g 1min brew, 45sec pressNotes:
Aroma starts with what I thought was a cinnamon and molasses mixture, but it soon reminded me of amaretto cake. The aroma also carries a sweetness that is very similar to glazed doughnuts. Each sip starts with a big sweetness and a slight lemon like tartness behind it. The sweetness is long and lingers well into the aftertaste leaving you with a sugary sweetness on your tongue. A few sips in and the sweetness morphs into a cocoa play which takes over in the finish. A big and juicy amaretto and cherry play emerges as the cup begins to cool.
Expect doughnut glaze sweetness, dried figs, molasses, and a long lingering finish. Flourishes in a filter, is plump in a presspot, and makes for a remarkably expressive espresso. ~ Tonx Coffee
Verdict:
I began to think this was just another sweet, yet simple cup of coffee until the Frankenstein in me decided to to adjust my usual Aeropress method of “19/230g 1min brew time” and morph it to “24/260g 1min brew time.” The Frankenstein in me created a monster of deliciousness. When I took the first whiff from my cup I realized the cup had exploded into something I hadn’t noticed yet with this coffee. I was smelling cinnamon and molasses. No, wait… I was smelling amaretto, cherries, and a sweet sugary sweetness. Oh my god!
The intensity of this coffee grew and each note just exploded with flavor.
I have fallen in love.
