Review: El Salvador Clementino From Verve Coffee Roasters

  • I love opening a coffee that ends up taking you by surprise and leaving you wishing you could smell the aromas every second of every day. It’s the kind of aroma that makes your jaw drop in awe. Verve Coffee Roasters gave me that great experience I was looking for with their El Salvador Clementino.

El Salvador Clementino took me by storm and had me wishing for more.

From the notes on the site, this coffee is said to have:

Beautiful citrus notes in the form of tangerine, clementine and meyer lemon carry the high notes through the cup. The body is heavy with a sticky caramel midsection that is complimented with an effervescent champagne-like finish.

When the coffee arrived I was bummed to find out that it was already 7 days from the roast date. I did not have a lot of time to play around with the coffee which bummed me out a bit. I guess next time I will see if I can get expedited shipping on their coffee.

Upon opening the bag, a wave of what smelt like a sparkling raspberry note flew out at me. I had to do a double take. It was like raspberry, but it also carried a champagne like aroma. I’ll admit I was not expecting the beans to have a champagne like aroma, but I was definitely intrigued by it.

I must say that in the past few months I have had some coffees where the beans carried the most interesting aromas I have ever smelt, and this coffee was definitely on the list.

After I brewed a cup of this coffee, I noticed a heavy body right away which coated my tongue, and shortly after a citrus like note came pouring out coating my tongue with a nice juiciness. After that, a toasted caramel note came out leaving me with a pleasing sweetness that lingered well into the aftertaste.

Digging deeper I found hints of lemon as the coffee started to cool, and a more pronounced caramel note starting to evolve.

This coffee overall leaves you with a clean finish.

I can’t say that I tasted champagne in this coffee, although I did notice it in the aroma, this coffee definitely did not disappoint. Overall, I’m really enjoying this coffee and am excited to see what else Verve Coffee Roasters has to offer.

    I’d give this a 4.25 out of 5 cups.

This coffee will run you $15.75 for a 12oz bag. It is a little on the higher side, but well worth the price.
