Aroma carries a sweet honey followed by lemon hints. A lemon acidity bursts open the doors with a sweetness following behind with hints of honey. A candied strawberry like play emerges as the cup cools. A honey and chocolate mix linger in the aftertaste.Spicy sweetness, with a undertone of honey and caramelized sugars. Lemon acidity. ~ Augie’s Coffee Roasters
Verdict:
This coffee opened up with a lemon acidity and a sweetness which reminded me of lemon heads. The coffee boasted a lot of candy play reminding me of candy from my childhood. This coffee didn’t win me over right away because the lemon acidity and honey were nothing new to me. I’ve tasted quite a few Ethiopian coffees with the same notes. It wasn’t until a few days later that the coffee finally shined.
I was getting more candied fruits which is something I’ve noticed before with Ethiopian Guji coffees. They like to boast candied blueberries, strawberries, grapes and so on.
This particular coffee started to shine with a beautiful candied strawberry play as the coffee cooled. If it was still Summer this would be a wonderful summer coffee, but that’s okay because this coffee still found its way to my heart.
