Review: Kenya Kirinyaga Mamuto From Terrior Coffee

  • Mamuto, Kirinyaga, Kenya

    The Coffee

    Beans: Kenya Kirinyaga Mamuto
    Roaster: Terrior Coffee

    Equipment/Brewing Method

    Brew Method: Aeropress
Grinder/Grind Size: Baratza Virtuoso Preciso – Dial 26
    Bean/Water Ratio: 15-16/200g
    Brew Time: 1 minute

    Notes:
An intense blackberry note dominates the aroma in a fury. Underneath hints of fresh cut grass, flowers, and a smidgen of tartness.

Each sip is very berry with a juicy-sweet blackberry note and a tartness that just hits your tastebuds with an intensity to be desired. The blackberry note lingers long after each sip leaving you with a sweet, but tart jam like taste with hints of chocolate.

Jammed with blackberry and blueberry. Sumptuous body with a long resonating finish. ~ Terrior Coffee

    Verdict:
I didn’t know how to feel about this coffee at first. This coffee is quite tart and may not appeal to everyone, but after I moved this coffee from the Clever Dripper to the Aeropress I realized how truly great this coffee is.

This Kenyan coffee has received scores between 96 and 97 points for the last 3 years over at CoffeeReview.com, but it wasn’t the reason for the purchase.

This is my first purchase from Terrior Coffee and I wanted my introduction to their company to be special. They have some amazing choices and it was very hard to choose, but I opted for a Kenya as I really thought it would be a great introduction.

It ended up being an amazing introduction.

    Score:
    95/100pts

may i suggest an amazing introduction to another massachusetts roaster, Barismo.

they offer a roaster’s pick, where they send i think 5 half-pound bags so you can compare/contrast. it’s great!

and yeah, mamuto is a stunner every season.
