Review: Kenya Thiriku From PT’s Coffee

Sometimes words don’t form when trying to explain what you’re tasting in a coffee. It’s not because you have nothing to say, but that the coffee is so good you can’t find the words that best fit the coffee. Kenya Thiriku is a perfect example of a coffee that left me at a loss for words.I was surprised to find that upon receiving my order of Burundi Kayanza Gatare that I was given a bag of this Kenya Thiriku. Thank you PT’s Coffee for sending me this.
This coffee is said to be:
a wonderfully round cup, with just enough acidity. The terrific body has sweet tones that linger throughout the cup. The juicy citrus acidity matches the ruby red grapefruit notes in the aroma. Thiriku has a creamy, juicy, wine-like body with light caramel and honey sweetness coming out as it cools. The lingering and pleasant aftertaste make this an exceptional cup.”
I knew I was in for a treat with this Kenya, but what I didn’t know is that once again I had a Kenyan coffee on my hands that would leave me speechless.
The coffee hits you hard the moment you open the bag. The beans explode with bright fruity notes. It was hard to distinguish the notes, but that was okay. I knew what was to come next.
As I waited, watching the coffee bloom, a wave of blueberries, and possibly strawberry notes flew out. I could smell sweet hints of honey and chocolate as well.
Through the process of brewing I took in every second. This was a moment to remember.
When the coffee was done I stuck my nose in the decanter and took a whiff. The blueberry note had unfortunately left, but what I was given instead smelt like sweet cherries. The note was bright and juicy. Underneath the cherries I noticed a honey note starting to grow with hints of grapefruit behind it.
When I took the first sip I was greeted with an intense juiciness, tartness, and a lingering sweetness. The notes came to life and I noticed cherries, honey, hints of lemon and chocolate sprouting from the cup.
This coffee is intense from the first sip to the last. It is bright, crisp, and leaves you begging for more.
I’d give this a 4.75 out of 5 cups.
Unfortunately it looks like this coffee is already sold out. If this offering comes around again I highly suggest you try it.
