Review: Los Immortales, El Salvador Finca Matalapa From Intelligentsia Coffee

  • Oh how I’ve missed the goodness of Intelligentsia Coffee. This week I ordered some Los Immortales, El Salvador which caught my eye after a twitter user reported that it tasted like cherry cola. Unfortunately, I do not remember who that user was, but thanks to them I was able to try one amazing coffee.

Whether or not it actually tastes like cherry cola or not I still good feelings that this would still be a great coffee nonetheless.

Los Immortales, El Salvador is said to be

Incredibly juicy and plush, the mouthfeel couldn’t be more succulent. Fresh green grape and honeydew melon combine with kiwi fruit and Bartlett pear. The finish brings nuance with floral notes and a hint of spice.

When I opened the bag the beans immediately let out an aroma that screamed of intense juiciness, fruity, and floral hints.

Once brewed, the aroma drew me in with a very pronounced juicy fruitiness, honey, and hints of floral. The fruitiness started to evolve to what smelt like green apples.

Upon taking the first sip I noticed it was exactly like the aroma, but better. A juicy green apple note flew onto my tongue mixing with a sweet cocoa like note. Each sip finishes with lingering cocoa and hints of spice. As the coffee cools I could taste hints of honey and floral.

As the coffee cooled down my excitement grew stronger for this coffee. I actually giggled when I realized that this coffee really does taste like cherry cola.

Overall, this has been a great week thanks to this coffee. I’d give this a 4.75 out of 5 cups.

I am always interested in finding ‘out-of-the-way’ coffee (to call it “boutique” would be too careless), thank-you for doing the hard research.
