Review: Panama Duncan Estate From Stumptown Coffee

The CoffeeBeans: Panama Duncan Estate
Roaster: Stumptown Coffee RoastersI love Stumptown Coffee Roasters for the really great coffee they always have to offer. Looking back at all the coffees I’ve had from them I really can’t think of one that I didn’t like.
Its been awhile since I’ve been to their site so when I did I was instantly struck with a collection of coffees that I couldn’t seem to choose from. Don’t you just hate when you can’t decide what to order? It was sad, but I actually spent a few days going back and forth trying to figure out what to try, but I finally landed on Panama Duncan Estate.
If you ever had a coffee from Panama you probably know its has been given a bad wrap for its “lack of flavor.” I’m not sure what the deal is or why so many coffees from Panama really do lack in flavor, but I just remain hopeful that it will get better.
Equipment/Brewing Method

Bean/Water Ratio: 23grams/340grams (For iced method just double the bean ratio)Notes:
The aroma starts off with sweet marshmallow’s which flow from the cup with caramel hints underneath. Rose hints start to emerge as the coffee cools. Each sip sings of sweet marshmallow’s and caramel. What a treat! As the coffee cools roses and fruity hints come out.A rose fragrance debuts flavors of pear, coconut and marshmallow with caramel throughout the cup. ~ Stumptown Coffee Roasters
Verdict:
It took me a few tries in my new coffee toys to find the sweet spot, but once I found it I was hooked. As a hot brew this coffee was good, but was a little mellow. When I tried it as a cold brew the sweet marshmallow and caramel notes really came to shine. The fruity note was bright and juicy.I wished the coffee was better as a hot brew — maybe a little more lively, but this coffee wasn’t a total loss as I found this coffee the best as a cold brew.
