Review: Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda Mario Carnaval Lot From PT’s Coffee

  • PT's Coffee

Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda Mario Carnaval Lot — It’s a coffee I heard about a few months back. I had always wanted to try it. I even bought a lb. of it in green beans from SweetMaria’s, but I’ve never been able to bring myself to roast it. I am nervous that I might screw the roast up. So it sits on a shelf. Waiting…

The other day while browsing PT’s Coffee offering list online I came across the Mario Carnaval Lot. When I realized I wasn’t dreaming I took it as a sign and I placed an order. I didn’t even know it was still available to buy.

I have heard many many great things about this coffee. Such raving reviews from fellow Twitter friends that this was a coffee I could not pass up on.

Whatever this coffee holds, whatever makes this coffee special I will find out.

Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda Mario Carnaval Lot is said to be

Delicately rich, balanced but gracefully intense coffee. High-toned aroma with flowers, nut and a hint of pungent cedar. Richly tart, opulent acidity; full, lightly syrupy mouthfeel. The flavor is dominated by voluptuous notes of night flowers, orange, tart cherry, nut, all of which coast into a long, deep, clean finish.

When you open the bag a balanced floral and fruity tartness shoots out and greets you with open arms. It reminded me of the smell of flowers at night. It was beautiful.

Each sip is delicate, carefully awakening your tongue with the most gorgeous taste you’ve ever tasted. A mix of floral, tartness, and sweetness hit you at once. A tart cherry note comes out and surprises you. It lingers around for a moment or so and then gradually disappears leaving you wanting more.

As the coffee starts to cool the sweetness that you first tasted starts to develop more. It tastes like chocolate. Each sip brings you something magical, coating your tongue with a juicy goodness, but leaves you with such a clean finish you just have to have another sip, or gulp.

Just when you thought you tasted everything the coffee could offer it surprises you again. A cedar nutty mix comes out to say hello.

PT’s description of this coffee hits this coffee head on. I don’t think I could have said it better myself. This is definitely a coffee that if you get the chance to try it do not pass up on it.

I’d give this coffee a 4.75 out of 5 cups.

I wish I never ran out of this coffee but unfortunately my pockets can’t support this lovely habit. At least not for this coffee. ;)

This coffee is unfortunately no longer available.

No longer available. The Panama Esmeralda Mario San Jose is now available, running $30.33 per 10oz. This was the #2 lot from the Panama Esmeralda Auction. It is a costly habit, but a good splurge every NOW and THEN.

I keep putting off this purchase, but I believe I’m fighting a losing battle here with all the great reviews I keep reading. I just got a bag of PT’s Southpaw espresso in yesterday and it explodes with flavor as spro, and shipped so fresh that I’m going to give it a couple more days to off-gas before I pull shots again.

On a side note. Have you found any great coffee shops down in this area. I live in Parrish and haven’t had a lot of luck finding a quality shop.

Hopefully they will get it again so you can try it. I’ve been meaning to try Southpaw Espresso, but it doesn’t really make sense to buy it if you can try it as an espresso. lol

As far as shops go, the only place that I can recommend is Buddy Brew in Tampa. If you are in that area hit them up. Damn good coffee.
