Review: Redcab, Brazil From Barefoot Coffee

  • Barefoot Coffee

I was surprised to find that I haven’t reviewed much of Barefoot’s Coffee so I decided to dive more into their coffee. Last week involved cup after cup of Redcab, Brazil and lots of espresso shots with their Slowroller Espresso which I’ll talk about in a later post.

Redcab, Brazil sounded like the perfect fit for me. How could you not resist a coffee with a description like this:

Warm spice and subtle floral notes in the aroma. Layers of chocolate and cashew butter with a cherimoya custard-like creaminess. Deep, heavy body with nice sweet finish.

I was so excited for this coffee that it came as a shock when I opened the bag to be greeted with a slight chocolate note. The bag didn’t give me much which worried me for what the coffee would taste like.

Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long to find out.

Once brewed I could detect a nice chocolaty aroma with hints of floral and a sweet buttery note. The buttery sweetness in the aroma was very pleasing. Overall, the aroma was light, but I remained hopeful.

The taste unfortunately wasn’t a big explosion of flavors, but instead the coffee was overall on the lighter side with a nice chocolaty play, hints of floral as the coffee cooled, and a nice sweet buttery note.

I found this coffee to be quite decent, but it wasn’t as good as I hoped for. I was hoping for this coffee to be a lot more lively than it was with intense nutty and chocolaty notes.

I can’t complain too much though as the coffee was still good from what it gave me.

Overall, I’d give this coffee a 3.5 out of 5 cups.

It might be because this is kind of old-crop by now…I remember seeing this coffee 7-8 months ago. They’re still offering it!?

Yeah, they still have it up for sale. I noticed it like a month and a half ago and was like “whoa they still have some” so I ordered it. You have a good point though, Will. It very well could be an old crop or just a not so great quality of crop.
