Verdict:
I was bummed to find out that Raven’s Brew Coffee does not disclose the beans used in this blend or any blends they have on their coffee bags or the site which is an indicator of mine to run for the hills. However, the taste says otherwise as this coffee is quite freaking delicious. Having said that, it would be nice to be able to see the different regions of beans used that make up this delicious coffee.I love how the coffee bags are very fun which is something you don’t see too often. I could see them not disclosing the beans used in the blends on the coffee bags, but at least have the information about the blends disclosed on the site. For me, this is a very important factor. I feel that if good quality beans were being used then there should be no reason why the information isn’t there.
Since I bought this coffee at my local Fresh Market, I can’t tell if they print a roast date for their coffees. This bag here came with a sticker that said “best by date of April 4, 2012″ so I am not sure about this, but since the best by date is over 6 months, I have a good feeling that this wasn’t at the store long. It also tastes pretty fresh too for a dark roast.
Despite my above complaints, the coffee really does have some nice perks to it. I for one love the packaging as this coffee in particular plays off of Red Riding Hood and the back of the bag gave me a good laugh. More importantly, the coffee is delicious for a dark roast. This coffee doesn’t carry the intense smokiness that you normally find with dark roasts which means this coffee was roasted with careful attention.
This coffee is rich and features sweet chocolate, intense spiciness, and carries just hints of smokiness to balance this coffee off. Wicked Wolf Blend would make a great after dinner let’s settle down coffee or a wonderful coffee to wake up to.
Score:
Even though I had some complaints about the company not disclosing bean information and such, the coffee was still delicious nonetheless, and I would give it a82/100 pts
