Review: Yellow Caturra Natural From PT’s Coffee

You may have noticed that I’ve been on a PT’s Coffee kick these past few months. I just can’t seem to break away from their delicious coffees, but then again who would want to? Once again, I couldn’t help myself when I came across a limited crop from Rusty’s Hawaiian, Yellow Caturra Natural. Please, somebody come and pinch me. I think I may have just died and gone to coffee heaven. Every coffee I’ve had from PT’s Coffee have been exceptional coffees in my book which is the reason why I’ve kept coming back.
Yellow Caturra Natural is said to carry:
A unique natural has the fragrance of strawberries and cream that invite you into the cup. Brewed, it is intensely sweet, bringing to mind crisp white wines. Flavors of sweet honeydew and golden apple round into cherry cordial and vanilla flavors as it cools.
The coffee arrived within two days after its roast date. This is another reason why I love this company. They are fast on shipping.
Upon opening the box I could smell the aromas of the coffees I received.
I opened the bag of the Caturra and took a whiff. A sweet candy like aroma flew under my nose that I just couldn’t seem to place. I tried hard to figure out the familiar aroma that I was smelling, but no luck. What I do know is the aroma makes you feel like you are in a candy store.
The second day of having this coffee in my possession, I noticed the candy aroma starting to smell like blueberries more. I found out later the blueberry note would dominate most of the coffee.
I measured out my dosage and waited for the water to boil. After the water was done I turned on the grinder and began to grind the beans. Upon pulling the bean hopper out I could smell sweet blueberries. If I wasn’t in coffee heaven before, well, I am now.
Throughout the brewing process, sweet blueberries dominated the coffee and filled the room.
Like I said before, the blueberry note dominates most of the coffee. At first, it was hard to pick anything other than a blueberry note in the aroma, but as the coffee cools a sweetness can be found with hints of fruit.
The taste starts off with a deep blueberry note and moves to a nice acidity that I couldn’t pinpoint. Could be apples as it had a fruity appeal to it. Hints of vanilla and honey can be detected as well.
I’m giving this a 4.75 out of 5 cups.
This was probably the hardest coffee to review, but I’m not complaining. This is a beautiful coffee with a hefty price tag of $47.45 that might cause some people to run and hide, but I tell you it’s worth the cost.
Unfortunately, this coffee is currently sold out, but is expected to return within 30-60 days. Keep a look out for this to return and when it does grab it before it’s gone.
