Roasters And Bad Luck Joining Forces
It’s been a sad few weeks for me. My new roaster is having a few issues so it’s been sent back for repairs. I’ve been kind of bummed because I was so excited to test out my roaster, but at least I had the Behmor to keep my coffee roasting withdrawals down to a minimum. That is until the Behmor broke.
I knew this was coming. I’ve been having trouble with the fan for awhile now. It’s been acting up and I can’t figure out why. Now, as I wait for a replacement fan, I am becoming anxious to get the fan fixed and get back to roasting.
I wanted to roast so bad Saturday that I even attempted PAN roasting again. If you’ve been reading The Coffee Adventures since the beginning than you’ll remember my first time roasting using a PAN. I knew from the beginning it wasn’t my thing and it still isn’t. It’s kind of funny looking back on my first attempt at roasting and how badly I was. I am learning new things about roasting every day, but I feel pretty confident in what I’ve been able to accomplish in these last few months.

Here’s a little snapshot of my little set up from Saturday. I don’t know what I was thinking that I could use a hot plate to roast. I wanted to keep the smoke outside so I thought it was a good idea. The beans never reached the first crack. They just baked the whole time so they ended up getting thrown out. I did have fun though at least trying again. It just reminded me that I still can’t PAN roast. Well, you win some, you loose some.QOTD: Have you tried roasting coffee at home? If so, what method have you found works best for you? And if you aren’t roasting, why not?
