Rockin’ Coffee: Is The Coffee Good Or Not?

  • Beans: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe (medium roast)
Brew Method: Aeropress w/ Able DISK
Grinder/Grind Size: Baratza Virtuoso Preciso – Dial 24
    Bean/Water Ratio: 19/230g 1min steep / 1:30 drop

    Notes:
Aroma carries bursts of lemon and grapefruit, along with dried figs and raisins.

Each sip carries pleasing dried figs and raisin notes. Soon after, a tea like play comes through with little spurts of lemon tartness. Cocoa lingers kind of heavy in the finish.

A strong earthy woodiness, segues to clove, chocolate, and a great variety of fruity, citrusy notes. ~ Rockin’ Coffee

    Score: 90/100pts
    Cost: $13.45 per 12oz

    __________

Beans: Timor Maubesse (medium dark roast)
Brew Method: Aeropress w/ Able DISK
Grinder/Grind Size: Baratza Virtuoso Preciso – Dial 24
    Bean/Water Ratio: 19/230g 1min steep / 1:30 drop

    Notes:
Smooth aroma with a chocolaty and nutty sweetness flowing out. Slight fruit hints are detected.

Each sip carries a mix of chocolate nuttiness which flows over your tongue coating it with hints of honey and a light acidity.

Chocolate, clove, woodiness, citrus, and a sweet finish make for a very distinct and pleasurable profile. ~ Rockin’ Coffee

    Score: 85/100pts
    Cost: $13.45 per 12oz

    __________

Beans: Guatemala Huehuetenango (medium dark roast)
    Brew Method: Clever Dripper
Grinder/Grind Size: Baratza Virtuoso Preciso – Dial 22
    Bean/Water Ratio: 22/350g 1:30 steep / 1 minute drop

    Notes:
The aroma is somewhat smoky with hints of chocolate and fruit.

Hints of smokiness, chocolate, and spice hits your tongue in a fury. While the smokiness mellows out the chocolate note takes over your tastebuds. The smoky play comes back in the finish and lingers around like the taste of cigarette ashes.

Bright citrus, dark chocolate, pleasant woodiness, piquante, but not bitter finish, paired with a pleasant dark char. ~ Rockin’ Coffee

    Score: 76/100pts
    Cost: $12.95 per 12oz

    Verdict:
I gave Rockin’ Coffee a chance because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Even thought their email and site had some red flags that told me I should stay away I went ahead and put my request in to sample their coffee. All in all, I was quite surprised to find that two out of the three coffees surpassed my expectations.

Just because your gut tells you to run doesn’t always mean it’s 100 percent right.
