Sumatra 44 From Rocketfuel Coffee Review

Sumatra has grown on me quite a bit lately. Before, it wasn’t a coffee I would ever order, but now that I have had the chance to try it, I am starting to wish I had tried it sooner. The newest Rocketfuel Coffee creation is Sumatra 44. I am more than excited to see what this coffee will bring to the table.
Sumatra 44 is a blend of Sumatra Takengon Beans, and Italian Roast Espresso. This coffee is a Fair Trade Certified, Organic and shade grown coffee and has notes of a
deep-toned, mildly earthy, low acid heavy body cup. Has semi-sweet chocolate roast tones with woody tree bark hints, earth, and darkly caramelized sugar sweetness.
From the aroma, I am getting an earthy/musty play with hints of chocolate. There is a woody note coming at me as well. Overall, has a mellow aroma.
In each sip, there’s a quick shoot of acidity that hits my tongue that’s very pleasing. After that, I am starting to get that earthy musty play going on, some slight hints of chocolate, a woody note, and even some nuttiness. Some smokiness starts to appear as the coffee cools. I notice the smokiness more in the aftertaste as it lingers around a bit.
Overall, quite an interesting coffee. A little more earthy/musty play than I would have liked, but still an exceptional coffee.
I’d give this a 3.75 out of 5 cups.
At $10 for a 1/2 lb. it’s not a bad deal. If you are into the earthy type coffees then definitely check this one out.
