Sumatra IKA Organic From 35 North Coffee Co. Review

  • I’ll admit I am not a fan of Sumatran coffees unless they are in a blend, but when 35 North Coffee Co. sent me a sample of Sumatra IKA Organic I had to put my opinions aside to review this.

I was actually excited to try this after the kitchen filled up with a wonderful aroma. I had to do a double take to make sure I brewed the right coffee. Yup. This was in fact a Sumatran coffee, but it smelt… darn good.

There was a chocolaty, slightly earthy, and smoky aroma coming at me. It didn’t smell like most Sumatra’s I’ve smelt before. It even smells like there might be some underlying fruity notes in there.

From the first sip, there’s a nice spice to it with a mellow smoky note. The chocolate note is starting to make an appearance right away, and lingers into the aftertaste. Once again, I can taste a bit of an underlying fruity note.

Alongside the chocolate note lingering around, I notice a smokiness lingering too which is not bad at all.

Overall, a surprisingly good coffee with a good heavier body. This coffee changed my opinion of Sumatran coffees.

I am giving this a 3.75 out of 5 cups.
