The Kalita Dripper: My New Love

  • A reader of mine recently sold me his old Kalita Dripper. Since it arrived, I have yet to be able to break myself away from it. I instantly fell in love. My poor Able Brewing Kone that arrived not long ago is starting to feel lonely.

Right now I am playing with a ratio of:

21-22g of beans • 350g of water • Pour enough water to saturate coffee and start timer • Bloom for 30 seconds • Pulse pour remaining water for 2:30 • Drain within 30-45 seconds • Grind should be on medium, medium fine side

From what I’ve tasted, this brew method is like having the body of a Hario Woodneck Dripper with the high notes of an Aeropress.

For me, 21-22g per 350g of water is a low ratio for my taste, but I am finding out the lower recipes seem to work best in the Kalita as what comes out is nothing on the thin side.

Looking to get some new recipes to play with along with some iced recipes as well.

Are you using 350g of water total or tearing the scale after pre infuse then adding 350g of water?

My apologies, Dane… I meant to put 350g total. I just updated the recipe to make that easier tot understand.
