Total Eclipse From The Roasterie Review

  • The Roasterie caught my interest when Jason from CoffeeCupNews did a live episode at The Roasterie awhile back. I finally decided to order from them when I started running low on coffee. They have a ton of coffees to choose from. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I went through every coffee they had picking and choosing the most interesting ones. I ended up with a good sized list, but in the end landed upon Total Eclipse.

    Total Eclipse is:

Spectacular and exhilarating, a total eclipse is a rare phenomena witnessed by only a few. And we’ve found a way to capture this dark and unique beauty in this luscious dark roast blend. Total eclipse is unbelievably smooth and balanced. A harmonious mix of ripe blackberry and rich dark chocolate explodes on the palate like sweet truffle, reminiscent of the exact moment the moon and sun unite in the sky. The finish is long and lingering with a syrupy caramel tone that is both clean and sophisticated.

This dark roast contains beans from Panama, Sumatra, Colombia, and Ethiopia.

From the moment you open the bag you are greeted with the most pleasing dark chocolate aroma. I instantly knew this coffee was going to be great.

I couldn’t wait to drink this. From the aroma of the beans, to the aroma coming from the cup, it’s like a sweet chocolate bomb. The aroma is a little more subtle than the beans, but still overall very pleasing. I also noticed the aroma carried a smoothness to it with small hints of a darkness.

The taste was very delicious. You are greeted with a dark chocolate note, and then this like fruit note comes and springs up on your tongue. I also get hints of a darker roast, like a slight smokiness, but it doesn’t stick around long.

This coffee is better than I expected it to be. I ended up adding an extra scoop of beans to my normal dosage to get it to the strength I wanted. I would have liked to see this roast a little darker, but all in all I am not complaining.

    I’d give this a 4.25 out of 5 cups.

At $11.89 for a 12oz bag it’s not that bad of a deal. If you are into the darker roasts than I suggest you give this one a try.
